University of Sydney physicists have developed an optical chip that could potentially improve Internet speeds upto 100 times faster than the current network.
- Uses Chalcogenide glass photonic chips.
- Based on plain glass and so cheap to produce the chips.
- Do not have to shell more more for the new technology.
- Data rates equivalent to transmitting 17 complete DVDs per second! (Unable to believe this.)
- Chips could be available in another 5 years.
- Possible first deployment in Japan.
