I guess most of us are sick with the slow download rate, and would have always thought of a download accelerator software. Here we go: Free Download Manager (FDM).
This is the best free download accelerator software found on the web. It comes with a GNU GPL License and is free to use. I have been using it for about 3 years and there has been no problem with it.

After installation, one can configure it to open as many connections as you want (the best is 20) to open with the server.
Bittorrent protocol support: Yep! FDM supports bittorrents.
