A mail sent to "username@gmail.com" would be typically delivered to "user.name@gmail.com". Moreover, a mail sent to the following
- user.na.me@gmail.com
- u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.com
If a GMail account like "user.name@gmail.com" already exists, registration of "username@gmail.com" would fail.
Inspite of all these, you cannot login using "username" if your GMail account is "user.name" as Google Applications recognize dots during login.
You can test this feature(bug) by sending a mail to "username@gmail.com" and you will receive it. Now, click "show details" on the mail, you can find "Yes, this is you" in the To field.
